Android TV Buying Guide 2025 | How to Choose the Right Android TV

No More Normal TVs in the Market: In 2025, if you go to buy a normal TV, you won’t find it in the market. All the TVs in the market have become smart TVs. And the majority of smart TVs are Android TVs.

    The Dominance of Three Manufacturers

Most of the Android TVs in India are made by only 3 companies. Radeon, Dixon, and Bhagwati. I’m telling the truth.

Because all the TVs are made in their factories. Only the logo is changing here. And the stuff you get in the market is exactly the same. All you get here is a generic TV market.

This is the reality of the market. Behind which the logo is being changed.

    Licensing & Branding

Basically, these companies have brought the logo. Basically, these companies have taken the license of Android TV and Google TV. Which they have got from Google.

And these companies can manufacture and sell their TVs to anyone.

Even if you want to create a smart TV brand. It’s easier to create a smart watch brand in today’s time in India.

    Are All Generic TVs Bad?

Do you understand this? Well, let me tell you one more thing about the game of smart TVs. I don’t mean to say that all the generic TVs are bad.

Although some companies make TVs of lower quality, they are bad. But there are some TVs that have better quality. So if you are buying any TV.

Just see that its quality product is good here. There is no problem with this. Whether it is generic or a company’s brand. Because in the end, it is made in the same place.

    Problems in Android TVs

But the story after this is very interesting. That is, there are some fundamental problems in all the smart TVs that I am observing. First of all, there is a lot of hardware.

These chipsets are used a lot. Although the majority of the companies that use chipsets are of MediaTek. Especially Sony TVs. And it also has some good chipsets.

But in the market, most companies use cheap MediaTek or some other chips. Due to which performance is not good. There are lags.

And even some TVs that do not have a good reception of Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. And I have also seen TVs of big companies.

It is important to keep in mind that while buying a TV, the reception of Wi-Fi is good here.

The Update Problem in Android TVs

With this, the next problem I have seen is that forget the update in Android TVs. Exactly, there is no update in Android TVs.

Rarely you will get to see any update here. That too, when the company ODM says that you have not updated your TVs. Then they go and give.

Although I have seen a small problem. That people say that there is not much requirement for updates here. But I can tell you this much.

That by updating, at least your bugs and problems get fixed. And the issues that were coming, they get fixed here. And this is a very big thing.

    The Long-Term Use Issue

That is, if there is no app running properly in your TV. If the performance of the update is better, then it is better. But such things are seen less.

Along with this, the versions of Android TVs are very rare in today’s update. Now I will tell you the loss of this. Because a TV is not like a mobile phone.

You have run it here for 2 years, 3 years, 4 years. You have to run a TV for a long time. And when you run it for 5 years, 10 years. And now the support of the app is like Netflix, it is running well now. Suppose Netflix has brought an update.

Due to which the update in the old versions does not work. Because of which you are not able to enjoy those new features, new things. This can also be a problem. Which these TVs need to see here.

    Samsung & LG

Although this problem is being solved by a company like Samsung. Because Samsung does not work on Android. Samsung has Tizen with it.

Samsung is making a 7-year update to its new Tizen Power TVs. Which can be done by a company like Samsung. Even LG is doing a similar case.

LG is also doing a little strong because they run on WebOS. But most of the companies other than them are on Android TV.

Budget Android TVs and Panel Quality

The next thing I would like to say is that all the budget Android TVs have a lot of problems in the quality of the panel.

It is not so efficient and sharp. I mean, there was a time when you used to get QLED TV for Rs 60,000-70,000. And in Rs 25,000-30,000, you also get QLED TV.

But the problem is that you can’t experience QLED in the technology that you get in premium images.

    The HDR Licensing Problem

If you look at it, you will get the same experience in normal content. Which has 4K content, brightness is fine. But the problem comes in HDR content.

Look, the problem in HDR content is that the licensing of HDR is being processed. Like Dolby Audio, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos.

You must have heard. Their license is taken in these TVs. And the licensing that is being taken, All this is a decoder. This means that it will decode the signal of Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio. After this, it depends on the panel and the speaker skew that what kind of output will be generated.

There is a lot of cost cutting. Because of which the brightness cannot be leveled. And the HDR content that you should actually see, You don’t get to see that.

    OTT Apps

Because literally, if you see HDR content on a high-quality screen, Then you will really know the difference here.

With this, I am seeing the next problem with OTT apps. First of all, there are a lot of OTT apps and not everyone can subscribe. You will only get to see limited OTT apps.

So anyway, there is still a lot of time to come to that era. But yes, keep a subscription of limited apps in front of you. Which you see, there is no need to buy useless apps.

    App Compatibility and Optimization Issues

On top of that, OTT apps work differently in every TV. And it doesn’t even work properly in any TV. I’ll take a very good example. It’s a Sony app.

It works well in Android TV. But it doesn’t work so well in Apple TV.

I saw the same story with other apps. What I mean to say is that some apps will work well in Amazon’s Pi TV Stick. Some apps will work well in Apple TV.

But to be honest, you don’t get a consistent experience of every app. The most optimized app that I have seen is YouTube. Like Google is making it here. Apart from that, all the other OTT apps seem to be made here just for the name.

    The Rise in Repairability

Along with this, one thing I have seen is that the positive thing that I have seen is that Repairability has improved in the last few years of TVs.

Smart TVs have started to get its parts easily in the aftermarket. Where the panels and its board can be easily found. Because of which it has become a little easier to repair.

    Need for Durable Software

However, I would like to tell you one thing. Normal TVs do not have a battery. So there is no such degradation there.

They have problems and the motherboard at the back fails. That’s why the board also changes here. But all the companies that are making TVs here, Their software will also have to make it rough and durable like this.

If people are running their TV for 5 years, 10 years, 15 years. So even after that, it keeps performing well. There is no problem in it.

Importance of Panel and Brand Quality

Along with this, one important thing that you have to keep in mind is that Here you have to go from high-quality panels to high-quality TVs.

And I would say that go to a good brand TV and check its review before buying it. Because I have often seen that multiple TVs of one brand come. There are problems in some TVs.

Some TVs start running very well. But if you look at it, consistent experience, If everything works properly in the TV, then it is a good thing.

    Nostalgia for Old Televisions

Even today, I would like to tell you the truth that Even today, I miss the traditional old televisions. Because there was no such problem in old TVs.

You just take a TV, a set-top box, you can watch whatever content you want. If you want a smart feature, then you can use Fire TV stick, Chromecast, etc.

Tizen and WebOS: Pros and Cons

But by building all these TVs, their performance has been degraded a lot. And the reason for this is that I think Samsung and LG did not take Android support here.

LG is working on Samsung Tizen and they have full control over it.

Although I have seen that things are not so smooth there.

See, WebOS and Tizen are their own OS. And there is support for limited apps here. You don’t get all the support for apps there.

It’s not like you put a third-party app, maybe your favorite OTT app won’t be there. So that is also a problem that you see with those TVs.

    The Need for Standardization
If you look at it, there is a need for a little standardization in the TV industry. Where people get consistent experience, get a good audio video experience.

Even I have seen that a company like Netflix is investing a lot in audio and video codecs here. And they are making their new R&D technology.

How to use limited data to transmit high-quality audio and high-quality video.

    Hardware Limitations and Future Hope

But they also have a problem that the hardware of the TV sets is not capable according to that. Because they want to put inferior quality hardware in TVs.

So that is also a thing that restricts them from delivering this type of new technology.

So let’s see in the coming time, the problem associated with Android TVs in 2025. Will it be solved or not?

    Final Words and Recommendations

ODM TV makers are introducing some high-quality high-end TVs in their portfolio.

In which there is OLED, a good processor, everything is good. And if I buy this at an affordable rate, then it will be a very good thing. And yes, I can also recommend them to buy.

Because if you get a good thing at a low price, what’s wrong with that? And in the end, it doesn’t matter who is making the TV, where is it made, how is it made.

Even the branding doesn’t matter. I’m telling you the truth, the difference is in quality. If the quality of the product is good, then go and buy it.
