The Big Problem with Smart TVs
If I tell you that there is a lot of problem in smart TVs these days, then you will agree with me. And I have made a video in the past that what is the problem in Android TVs? Like the boot up time is too much. If you are watching a cricket match and turning on the TV, many times the TV turns on and reaches the app, one or two overs are left here. Along with this, if I launch the app, it takes a lot of time to load. And if I switch the app in between, the app disappears from the background.
The next problem is that no Android TV maker promises Android TV updates. That is, the OS will continue in it. After that, the company will not provide any updates. Forget version updates, new features or bugs removal things are not provided in the software. And the case with the majority of Android TVs is that the panel here is said to use QLED. But when QLED panels are put in a TV worth Rs 20,000–22,000, they are of very low quality. Which does not have brightness, does not have the quality of HDR content, and Dolby Vision is only of the name.
But let me tell you, all these problems that I had explained earlier, if a company is making a TV with all these problems in mind and is delivering a good TV to you, how will you feel? Well, the thing is absolutely right.
What is Lumio?
I am talking about such a company about which people have no idea. And this company is different in the market and better than others. The company’s name is Lumio. And all the problems I told you about with smart TVs, they are fixing all those problems here.
Now the first thing, see this Lumio company is in the market, but the people who work in this company, they are not very new, they are very old people. Like the founding of this company, there are employees of Xiaomi and Flipkart. Even the TV division of Xiaomi, the people who led, they left Xiaomi and joined Lumio. So that they can make a TV with Lumio, which they may not be able to make with Xiaomi. And this is an advantage with Lumio.
Lumio vs Samsung, LG, & Sony
Because they know how to make a product, how to make a requirement, and what the people of India want. Because in today’s time, almost 99% of the TVs you see in the market, they are exactly the same. The company will just catch an ODM partner, make a TV with it, put its logo on it, and run it in the market.
And what is the fundamental problem here? You buy a TV, inside it, they just have to change the logo of the next one. That the next sticker is changing, and the company is launching new TVs of different brands here. And this is the fundamental problem they solved.
Performance in TV
That is the performance. You have never heard of a good processor in a TV. Because no company is interested, to put a good processor in a TV. But these people said, that we will use a better processor, which will be the best in the market, will give the most RAM and storage, and will make the TV fast.
Their claim is that, the most premium Android TV in the market, which company does it come from? Sony. Their TV is almost 2x faster than Sony’s. You heard it right.
How is that? Because they are using a better processor. Sony uses a MediaTek processor, but it is not a flagship, it is mid-range. These people have used something called a Boss processor. But in reality, they are using a processor from a RealTech company, but it is a high-end processor.
Yes, in the world of TV processors, the processors of three companies are very popular. One is M-Logic, which you often see in Xiaomi TVs. RealTech, whose people are using this processor. Along with this, there is MediaTek.
MediaTek is used in almost all Sony TVs and premium TVs. But these people are using a good processor, giving 3GB RAM. Because of which, the performance inside the TV is good, and the RAM management is also good. If you are switching between multiple apps, then it is not that the total RAM is killed here. The app that is there again, will be resumed from there.
4K Video Playback
Many TVs still today, due to the low-end processor, are not able to play 4K content properly. 4K will run at 24FPS or 30FPS. But running 60FPS on YouTube, in any budget TV, which is below 20,000 or 30,000. Especially, because the processor is not used well below 30,000, due to which lag occurs.
And if you want to check the actual performance of any TV, in a hard drive or pen drive, take a high-quality 4K HEVC H265 file, play it and see. Then you will know how powerful your TV is.
They saw that people need a very smooth experience. They will provide that. 4K playback should be smooth. They will provide that. Along with this, 4K will run smoothly at 60FPS. Plus, if you are playing any 4K file from any external drive, then it will also play smoothly.
They worked on this thing. Take Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos. They are providing all those things here.
Better Quality QLED Panels
They obviously, the TVs they have, the QLED panel they are using there, they are using a comparatively better quality, because there are very cheap quality panels in the market.
The TV of their base model, the 43-inch model, it starts from Rs 30,000. Even in Rs 30,000, this company is providing you a very high-quality panel, which is a very good thing. Because even in 43-inch, the TVs of Rs 25,000–30,000, the quality of the panel is very low.
There is no black level. And yes, the performance of HDR is also not good. The peak brightness is also not good.
And the good thing is that the premium TV they have, Mini LED TV Vision 9, in it, QD Mini LED display has been used. There are 1920 mini LED lights. There is local dimming. Because of which, the black level will also be good.
Plus, in that TV, in HDR, there is a peak brightness of 900 nits, up to. And, in SDR content, there is a peak brightness of 600 nits, up to.
Because of which, if you enjoy HDR content in the TV, whether it is Dolby Vision or HDR10, then here you will get to see the experience of a better screen.
Android Update in TVs
Talking about the Android version, it is with Android 11. Talking about this, do a partnership with Google.
Partnership with Google, Dixon & Amazon
So, Google TV OS, they are providing. But, they have integrated their own TLDR app. The content inside it, these people here, in their own way, the content aggregator, will work in that way. And, their primary objective, at this time, is a bit on the sports side.
Along with this, next thing, how did they make the TV? So, they have partnered with a company called Dixon, which is their ODM partner, which will make them a TV. Although, these people, off the shelf, the TVs that are made, they are not making. They have designed the TV themselves, and they are making it here.
They are selling it through Amazon. So, the distribution has been sorted here. Along with this, the company has a job, that they have to stay in the market for a long time. They are giving the Android TV OS version update, where the version is with 11, and it will take up to 12 and 13.
Along with this, here, they will also provide a 3-year Warranty warranty for the TV, if someone pre-books it. And, normally, a 2-year warranty, which is quite good in the TV industry. But, yes, for 2 to 3 years, nothing happens to the TVs, they run well.
Their aim is, how to create the TV better with the update. That is, how to make the TV better with every update.
Affordable TV
The good thing is, they have also kept the price of TVs low, looking at the Indian market. The model starts from Rs 30,000 to Rs 43,000. And, the premium 55-inch model, with QD Mini LED, that comes for Rs 60,000.
If you are getting a Mini LED TV for Rs 60,000, a good deal can happen here.
What They Can Improve
However, now, I would like to talk about, whether everything is fine with the company. Look, according to the first product, things have been sorted, and some things can be improved.
Look, first of all, whether the Android version is longer, or with the new Android version, if they had taken out the TV, it would have been a better thing.
Along with this, they have worked on the speakers, and said that, they will provide better speakers. But, yes, the better things you will see, they are providing better with the top-end model. The entry-level model, I would say, is fine here.
But, yes, the majority of TVs, which come at the price point of Rs 30,000 or Rs 35,000, a good deal will happen here.
Better Wi-Fi & Other Features
- Along with this, most of the reviews were also very good, because they have worked on fundamental things, which the companies ignore here.
- Along with this, the performance of Wi-Fi, the performance of Bluetooth, is very bad in many TVs. So, they have also worked there, where a faster Wi-Fi chip has been integrated, so that the Wi-Fi performance is good.
- Along with this, HDMI 2.1, HDMI eARC, such fundamental things have been created. If someone wants to connect their home theater system, soundbar, or even their PS5, they can do that.
Feedback for TVs
But, even now, there are some entry-level TVs. And, they can be made a little more premium. Feedback number one is that, the looks of the TV can also be made better, especially if it is a premium TV. From behind, or stand-wise, something or the other can be stylized.
The next thing is that, if people buy the next TV, then I would like them to buy a solid OLED TV for Rs. 1 lakh. Because, there are still OLED TVs in the market. But, if a solid OLED TV comes in the market, then the game can change.
There are many people in the market who will like to buy an OLED TV for Rs. 1 lakh.
What They Can Do in Future
Talking about this, there is one more gap in the market. That is, the projector. They can also bring a projector, if they bring a high-quality projector. Because, in the market, I have seen projectors for Rs. Rs. 25,000, Rs. 30,000, which are not so special.
Some come with Linux OS, some come with Android, but, there is no special fun. But, if they bring a high-quality projector, then that is the work. After this, one more thing can be done, in the soundbar. Bring a high-quality soundbar for Rs. Rs. 25,000.
Even now, most of the soundbars that come in the market, which we see from different companies, like Zebronics, or any other company, most of them are ODM products.
Bring the product as it is. In those products, no sound engineering was done. That is also a home entertainment thing, where these people can work. Along with this, home theater system, all these things.
I would like to say one thing, that this company should never, get into the smartphone space. The TV space is right, competition is less, products are also not good.
If these people make the right product there, and deliver the right TV, then a lot of good work can be done in the market.
Conclusion
So, overall, this is the story of Lumio. Personally, I have not yet got a chance, to personally check the TV. Although, I know some people, who have seen its TVs. So, from there, when I heard their praise, then I thought, yes, let’s do a research, and see, exactly, what is the company, how does it work.
We will see, in the coming time, its TVs, how they deliver, their promise. And yes, the update situation, is really worth seeing, what kind of update, they give.
Because, in TV, no one promises an update, updates are not available on time. So, that is a very big problem. If these people, solve the update problem, it can be a big game changer, in the industry. And I hope, the other companies, who make TVs, learn from them.
